Rod Smith practices in commercial litigation and is an accredited mediator and arbitrator. Rod’s distinguished legal career as barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia includes 10 years service on the Council of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV). Rod was the president of the LIV on a full time basis from 1994 to 1995.

Rod’s professional qualifications and memberships include:

• LIV accredited specialist in mediation;
• Member of the LIV Panel of Accredited Mediators for Supreme and County Courts and General Panel;
• Member of LEADR Advanced Panel of Mediators;
• Member of Lawcover Panel of Mediators;

Rod has acted as commercial mediator in over 600 disputes over the last 10 years and as arbitrator in commercial and general disputes.

Rod has been actively involved in several capacities with the Law Institute of Victoria, the Law Council of Australia and other professional bodies over the years.

Rod’s current appointments include:

• Mortgage Industry Ombudsman for Victoria;
• Member of Appeal Panel established under the Essential Services Act;
• Member of Victorian Legal Practice Board;
• Director of Legal Industry Superannuation Scheme.
